You’re at a networking event. You see someone you vaguely remember coming toward you. She reaches out to shake your hand and says her name: “Hi – Jane Doe – nice to see you!” This is your cue to give your name in reply. “Hi – yes – Sean Smith – how are you?” Chances are that Jane has forgotten your name – hence the self-reintroduction. Don’t make her struggle! Good networkers are aware and courteous enough to give their name in reply. While you are brushing up your networking skills, take time to introduce yourself if no one else has introduced you, and remember that your nametag goes on your right hand side – it’s at “the top of the handshake.”
